Anna Sawai joins A24’s crime thriller ‘Enemies’, teaming up with Austin Butler and Jeremy Allen White in Chicago.

Japanese actress and singer Ana SawaiAnna Sawai is joining A24’s highly anticipated crime thriller Enemies, co-starring alongside Jeremy Allen White, Austin Butler, and Japanese actor Hidetoshi Nishijima, according to Deadline.

Directed by Henry Dunham, the film follows a tense showdown between a relentless detective and a notorious hitman in Chicago. The casting news comes after the film was officially confirmed by A24 yesterday.

Sawai’s role adds to her rapidly growing Hollywood profile after her groundbreaking performance as Lady Mariko in FX’s Shōgun, which earned her an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award in 2024—making her the first Japanese actor to win these major U.S. TV awards.

Fans might also recognize her from hits like Apple TV+’s Pachinko and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, or blockbuster movies such as F9. Production on the $25-million thriller begins this summer, alongside her work on David Leitch’s new movie How to Rob a Bank, which she joined last month.
