What Really Happened When Barry Keoghan Met Ringo Starr

Barry Keoghan admitted he was overwhelmed with nerves when he finally met The Beatles drummer.
Despite months of preparation for the role and countless drumming classes Barry Keoghan took to familiarize himself with the character of Ringo Starr, the actor was terrified to meet him in person.
Keoghan said, “I sat opposite him, and I could not look at him because I was nervous. His wife, Barbara, was there, and she said, ‘You can look at him.’”
Every time the actor raised his eyes to glance at the legendary musician, he saw his own reflection in Ringo’s stylish glasses.
Keoghan is set to star in four films about The Beatles, and preparations are in full swing. Barry shared that he already has a bunch of blisters on his hands from drumming for nearly seven months.
He added that meeting Ringo Starr wasn’t about playing the spy or observing him solely from an actor’s perspective.
Barry said, “I told him, ‘I’m not coming here to quiz you. I’m coming to find out what made you — and what the contrast was like, going back to Liverpool after Beatlemania.’”
The epic biopic — which director Sam Mendes calls “the first binge-able theatrical experience” — is set for release in April 2028, perhaps the only disappointing detail about the project so far.
