Watch Gracie Abrams Cover Lorde's 'Laibility' Live at Auckland Arena Show

The tribute came as Lorde released ‘What Was That,’ with other artists like Olivia Rodrigo also celebrating Lorde’s return.
Gracie Abrams paid tribute to
Lorde on April 29 at Spark Arena in Auckland, covering Liability during her Secret of Us Tour stop. Abrams performed the song solo at a keyboard on the B-stage, making the moment feel personal for the New Zealand crowd.
She told fans she’d been “thinking about [Lorde] a lot” while in Lorde’s home country and praised Lorde’s recent return to music, referencing her new single What Was That, released April 24.
Before playing Liability, Abrams called it “one of my favorite songs ever.” The audience responded by singing along to the well-known lyrics. The timing of the cover matched growing interest in Lorde’s comeback after a four-year break since her 2021 album Solar Power. Other artists, like Olivia Rodrigo, have also shown support for Lorde’s new music, with Rodrigo posting a TikTok dancing to What Was That.
Abrams and Lorde have a public friendship, with Abrams recently describing Lorde as “800 years old inside” for her wisdom. The Secret of Us Tour is Abrams’ first arena tour and supports her second album, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
