R&B artist UMI has officially joined Epic Records and just released her new single Hard Truths featuring 6LACK. Here’s what you need to know.

UMI has signed to Epic Records and dropped a new single, Hard Truths, featuring American singer, rapper, and songwriter 6lack (Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr.)6LACK. The track is her first release with the label and was produced by HARV and Vron. It deals with the tension between having it all on paper and still feeling disconnected, with lyrics like: “You could have a nice house, but going home lonely / Closet full of nice clothes, who’s holding you closely?”

UMI says the song is about facing uncomfortable realities—both in relationships and in yourself. 6LACK’s verse fits the theme, making the track feel like a conversation between two people figuring things out.

This release follows UMI’s 2024 EP talking to the wind, and the single Butterfly II, both of which leaned into softer, reflective songwriting. She’s also been busy collaborating with artists like BTS’s V (Wherever U R), EXO’s BAEKHYUN (Do What You Do), and Raveena (Lost My Focus).

Epic Records president Ezekiel Lewis called UMI “peaceful and electrifying,” and praised the way she connects with listeners. The move to Epic suggests bigger things ahead, with a wider rollout likely coming soon. The Hard Truths video is also out now and streaming on all major platforms.
