Every year, the Met Gala takes inspiration from the current topic exhibited at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Let’s break down what this year’s theme really means.

The 2025 Met Gala will reflect the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, focusing on the cultural significance of Black dandyism.

This year’s exhibition, inspired by Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, will explore how style and clothing have historically shaped not only Black identity but menswear and the male relationship to fashion in general.

With the dress code announced: Tailored for You, the gala event will, as usual, highlight these themes, inviting guests to reflect on the intersection of fashion, culture, and empowerment in their own style.

We expect to see a lot of suiting as well as more daring and playful menswear-inspired looks by both, established and emerging designers.

The exhibition will open to the public on May 10, just five days after the Met Gala event.
