Sam Fender’s Syd For Solen headline set closed with Greta Thunberg and activists leading pro-Palestine chants.

Sam Fender closed his August 8 headlining set at Copenhagen’s Syd For Solen festival with a politically charged moment that drew global attention.

During finale Hypersonic Missiles, he brought climate activist Greta Thunberg and Danish activist Selma de Montgomery onstage, along with other campaigners, to lead pro-Palestinian chants. Slogans like “Free, free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” rang out as a large Palestinian flag filled the stage screen.

De Montgomery, a UNICEF ambassador and member of the Green Youth Movement, addressed the crowd in Danish, accusing the government of enabling Gaza’s suffering by maintaining arms trade with Israel. Fender wrote Hypersonic Missiles (which references Gaza) back in 2018.

Footage of the moment spread quickly via fan clips and outlets, underscoring a wider Nordic festival trend of artist-led pro-Palestinian activism this summer.
