Olivia Holt Back for 'Cruel Summer' Season 3, Now in Development

Olivia Holt will return as Kate Wallis in ‘Cruel Summer’ season 3, now in development at Hulu and Freeform.
Cruel Summer is officially moving toward a third season, with Olivia Holt set to return as Kate Wallis — and this time, she’ll also be an executive producer. Sources tell Variety that the new season is in development at Hulu and Freeform, with Cori Uchida and Adam Lash joining as showrunners.
Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple will once again produce through Iron Ocean, with Lionsgate TV behind the project.
The Freeform series debuted in 2021 and became the network’s most-watched show, but Season 2 took an anthology approach with a new cast and story, earning a weaker reception. Holt led the first season alongside Chiara Aurelia in a three-summer mystery about a missing teen and the classmate accused of knowing more than she claimed.
Since then, Holt has starred in Cloak & Dagger, the film Heart Eyes, and Peacock’s Laid, and made her Broadway debut in Chicago in 2023.
