Odessa A’zion’s 'Pools' Gets August Release After SXSW and TIFF Buzz

Odessa A’zion’s coming-of-age film ‘Pools’ lands U.S. release with Utopia’s Circle Collective this August.
Odessa A’zion’s next big move is here: Pools, a coming-of-age indie she stars in and executive produced, has been acquired by Utopia’s Circle Collective for U.S. distribution, as reported by Deadline. Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Sam Hayes, the movie premiered at SXSW Sydney 2024—where it won the Audience Award—and later sold out its North American premiere at TIFF Next Wave.
In Pools, A’zion plays Kennedy, a college student facing expulsion who ditches responsibility for a chaotic night of backyard pool-hopping with a crew of misfits. Beneath the surface-level fun, the film digs into themes of grief, identity, and growing up.
The cast includes Mason Gooding,
Ariel Winter,
Tyler Alvarez, and
Michael Vlamis. It hits Chicago’s Music Box on August 22, with NYC and LA dates on August 29, followed by a national rollout on September 5.
