Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu Reflect on Making 'Doctor Who' History

Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu reflect on Doctor Who’s historic 15th season ahead of its April 12 return.
Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, best known for playing the fifteenth incarnation of Doctor Who, recently attended the release party for the show’s fifteenth season alongside his co-star
Varada Sethu. The two reflected on the significance of the show’s first season featuring two non-white leads.
Speaking to RadioTimes, Gatwa shared his thoughts on the matter:
“It means… I guess progress, in terms of how we reflect the societies that we live in. That’s something incredible that media can do, and that’s what it’s doing. But it’s also exciting to look forward to a day when [having non-white leads] isn’t something huge.”
Gatwa’s co-star Sethu echoed the sentiment, saying it’s “amazing” when it’s not something “we have to talk about.”
As for the show’s sixteenth season, its future remains unclear, and rumors surrounding Gatwa’s potential departure from the series haven’t helped matters.
Gatwa will return as the fifteenth Doctor on April 12 with a brand-new season, followed by seven weekly episodes through May 31, 2025.
