Mikey Madison in Talks to Replace Sydney Sweeney in A24’s 'Masque of the Red Death'

Mikey Madison is in talks to replace Sydney Sweeney in A24’s new ‘Masque of the Red Death,’ set to film in 2025.
Oscar winner Mikey Madison is in talks to star in A24’s upcoming reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, directed by Charlie Polinger and produced by Picturestart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madison would take over the lead role from
Sydney Sweeney, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Sources say the film is expected to begin production at the end of 2025 or early 2026.
If cast, Madison would play twin sisters in a story set inside a castle where a prince gathers nobles while a deadly plague devastates the outside world. The plot includes themes of class divide, power struggles, revenge, and decadence, with the arrival of a long-lost twin disrupting the prince’s plans.
This would be one of Madison’s first major roles since winning an Oscar for Anora, which took home five Academy Awards. Madison has previously appeared in Scream and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and she’s set to star in Reptilia with Kirsten Dunst. Sweeney is currently busy with projects like Euphoria and a Gundam film.
