British rapper and actress English-Nigerian rapper (Simbiatu "Simbi" Abisola Abiola Ajikawo)Little Simz has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming film Steve, starring alongside Cillian Murphy. The movie, directed by Tim Mielants, is a reimagining of Max Porter’s novel Shy.

Murphy plays the lead role of Steve, a headteacher grappling with mental health challenges while managing a reform school for troubled boys in 1990s England. Little Simz, known for her Mercury Prize-winning album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, will take on a supporting role, though specific details about her character remain undisclosed.

The film also features actors Jay Lycurgo and Elliot Warren, with production already underway in the UK. Little Simz, whose real name is Simbiatu Ajikawo, previously appeared in Netflix’s Top Boy and the 2023 film Goldie. Her involvement in Steve marks another step in her growing acting career, blending her musical and cinematic talents.

Steve is produced by Cillian Murphy’s Big Things Films and Netflix. The film is set for a short theatrical release in cinemas in September, before becoming available online on October 3rd, 2025.
