Leon Thomas and Dylan Sinclair Reimagine D’Angelo’s 'Brown Sugar' with a Soulful Cover

A synergistic collaboration we couldn’t foresee. Listen to the preview below.
Leon Thomas and
Dylan Sinclair have teamed up to deliver a fresh take on
D’Angelo’s iconic 1995 track, Brown Sugar. The duo’s cover, featured on Amazon Music Original series, strips the neo-soul classic down to its core, emphasizing raw vocals and smooth harmonies over minimal instrumentation.
Their rendition pays homage to the original while infusing it with their own modern R&B flair. Thomas, known for his Grammy-nominated work as a songwriter and his 2023 album Electric Dusk, brings his signature vocal agility to the performance. Sinclair, an emerging Canadian R&B artist celebrated for his 2022 project No Longer in the Suburbs, complements Thomas with his silky tone and understated charisma. Together, they create a magnetic chemistry that breathes new life into the sultry anthem.
This collaboration follows Thomas’s recent work with artists like Chris Brown and
Ty Dolla $ign, as well as Sinclair’s growing buzz in the R&B scene. The Brown Sugar cover is a testament to their shared respect for soul music’s roots and their ability to reinterpret it for a new generation.
At the moment the track is available only on Amazon Music, so hopefully the artists will release it on other major platforms soon.
