Julia Garner Stars Opposite Anthony Boyle in FTX Drama 'The Altruists'

Julia Garner stars as Caroline Ellison in Netflix’s ‘The Altruists’, a drama about the FTX crypto scandal.
Julia Garner is returning to Netflix to star in The Altruists, a limited series about the rise and fall of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Garner plays Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, who was closely linked both professionally and personally to FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.
The eight-episode series follows their attempt to reshape global finance—and the financial scandal that followed. In 2022, FTX collapsed after billions in customer funds went missing, triggering federal investigations and criminal convictions. Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air, Tetris) will co-star as Bankman-Fried.
The Altruists is created by Graham Moore (The Imitation Game) and Jacqueline Hoyt (The Good Wife), with Moore and Hoyt serving as co-showrunners. James Ponsoldt will direct the first episode. Garner is also on board as an executive producer. The series is a joint production between Netflix, Higher Ground Productions, and Vox Media Studios.
This marks Garner’s latest collaboration with Netflix, following Ozark and Inventing Anna, both of which earned her critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations.
