Julia Garner Confirms the Madonna Biopic Is Still in the Works

Julia Garner confirms the Madonna biopic is still on, sharing details of her intense audition with the pop icon herself.
Julia Garner is still set to play
Madonna in the long-awaited biopic about the pop icon’s life. Despite earlier reports that the project was canceled, Garner confirmed on the SmartLess podcast that it’s “supposed to still happen,” with the script currently being rewritten.
The Emmy-winning actress, known for Ozark and Inventing Anna, revealed she had to sing and dance for Madonna herself during the intense audition. “I wasn’t a trained dancer,” she said, “but I had to convince her I could do it—and sing with her too.”
Garner grew up listening to Madonna and channeled her energy during the tryout. “What would Madonna do?” she asked herself. That confidence clearly paid off. While there’s still no release date, the project is very much alive.
In the meantime, Garner stars as Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, earning praise for helping bring fresh energy to the Marvel universe.
