Joy Crookes shares a fresh single from her upcoming album and tells the story of how she ended up having Sam Fender on the record.

British singer-songwriter Joy CrookesJoy Crookes has released Somebody to You, a mellow single featuring Sam Fender’s backing vocals, ahead of her second album Juniper, out 19 September.

Surprisingly, Fender is not credited directly on the single, but Crookes shared how the two became friends and eventually collaborated.

“Sam and I met at the Mercury’s. We drank with Guy Garvey and ended up at Little Simz’s afters (I know, so many name drops) and became mates. A year later, he was down in London and I collected him from King’s Cross in my Suzuki and we bolted down Euston Road bitching about music and the state of the world to end up at Studio 13."

Crookes wrote the track reflecting on the mutual dependence between herself and someone close to her, questioning whether redefining that connection might help her better understand herself.
