Jonathan Daviss Cast as Snoop Dogg in Upcoming Universal Biopic

Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg in a Universal biopic tracing the rapper’s rise from Long Beach to hip hop legend.

American actor Jonathan Daviss.Jonathan Daviss has been cast as Snoop Dogg in an upcoming biopic from Universal Pictures. According to Deadline, the film will be directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) and produced by Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer, and Sara Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures. It marks the first film under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal.

The biopic will focus on Snoop Dogg’s early career, from his beginnings in Long Beach to his rise through the West Coast hip hop scene. It covers his time at Death Row Records and his collaboration with Dr. Dre on his 1993 debut album Doggystyle.

Daviss is best known for playing Pope in Netflix’s Outer Banks. His other credits include Do Revenge, where he starred alongside Maya Hawke and Sophie Turner, and the indie films Edge of the World and Age of Summer.

The project joins Universal’s lineup of music biopics, which includes 8 Mile and Straight Outta Compton. Production details and a release date have not yet been announced.
