Joey Bada$$ has returned with a new single titled Black Aura. The release arrives after a turbulent year where the rapper openly clashed with his label over repeated delays to his long-promised album.

At the time, Joey even threatened to bypass the industry system entirely by dropping the project on his own YouTube channel. No such album appeared, which suggests he eventually struck some sort of compromise with the label.

Sonically, the track sticks to Joey’s roots, leaning heavily on a classic boom bap production. But not all listeners are impressed—some critics online called the title generic, and Reddit users compared it unfavorably to his earlier diss tracks, saying it makes him sound one-dimensional.
