Joe Locke confirms the Heartstopper story will end with a movie, saying it’s the best way to bring everyone back together.

Manx actor Joe LockeJoe Locke has confirmed that Heartstopper will end with a movie, not another season. In a recent interview with The Playlist, he explained the choice came down to logistics. “We are all in such different places,” he said, talking about how busy the cast has become since season one. “The time it would’ve taken to film a series, we just wouldn’t have been able to get everyone in the same place for five years.”

Instead of waiting that long, the team decided a film would be the best way to finish the story. “It’s a really nice chapter closer,” Locke said. “It makes it feel more cinematic, more grand, and gives it the ending it deserves.” He also confirmed that filming will begin soon and said, “The script is great.”

Heartstopper, which premiered on Netflix, quickly gained a global following for its honest and relatable take on queer teen life. While Locke has moved on to other projects—including his role as Billy in Marvel’s Agatha All Along—he made it clear that wrapping up Heartstopper the right way still matters. The film aims to bring closure to the story in a way that works for both the cast and the fans.
