Jasmin Savoy Brown Reflects on 'Scream 7' Without Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera

Jasmin Savoy Brown calls ‘Scream 7’ “sad and stressful” after Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera’s exits.
Jasmin Savoy Brown is speaking candidly about the upheaval surrounding Scream 7. The Yellowjackets star, who plays Mindy Meeks-Martin, told author Ashley Collins in the new book Your Favorite Scary Movie: How the Scream Films Rewrote the Rules of Horror that the past year has been “really sad and stressful” following the loss of two of her co-stars.
Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, was fired in November 2023 after Spyglass called her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war antisemitic. Barrera has denied the accusation. Shortly after,
Jenna Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter, left due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday.
Brown pushed back on the criticism aimed at Barrera, saying: “Often, actors are expected to know as much about politics as politicians… It’s not politics, it’s human life.” Even with the setbacks, she said she hopes “someday, even if it’s 20 years from now, the Core Four gets back together on screen.” Scream 7 is slated for release on February 27, 2026.
