Isaac Hempstead Wright shares advice with HBO’s new ‘Harry Potter’ stars, reflecting on fame, pressure, and staying grounded.

Isaac Hempstead Wright has some advice for HBO’s new Harry Potter stars—and he knows what he’s talking about.

Wright, who was cast as Bran Stark in Game of Thrones at age 12, ]spoke to The Times following the casting of Dominic McLaughlinDominic McLaughlin, Arabella StantonArabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as Harry, Hermione, and Ron in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. With over 30,000 kids auditioning, the pressure is on—and Wright says it’s only grown since his own debut in 2009.

“Twitter had pretty much just come out… There wasn’t quite the level of hatred back then,” he said, noting how much more intense online scrutiny is today.

Wright also reflected on how unprepared he was, recalling, “I didn’t even have an agent… My local drama teacher sent [the contract] back to my family and said, ‘I managed to get to page four, see how you do.’”

His advice? “Enjoy every minute… take every opportunity it affords you.”

HBO’s new Harry Potter series, announced in 2023, will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books. Rowling will serve as executive producer and retains ownership of key elements of the franchise.
