HBO’s 'Harry Potter' Series Casts Young Trio After 30K Auditions

HBO casts new trio for ‘Harry Potter’ series as filming nears, with a faithful reboot set to launch on Max in 2026.
HBO has officially revealed the young cast leading its upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Dominic McLaughlin,
Arabella Stanton, and
Alastair Stout will take on the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Over 30,000 children auditioned following an open casting call last year.
The show is being developed as a decade-long “faithful adaptation” of JK Rowling’s original book series. Filming is expected to begin in summer 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, with the first season potentially dropping on HBO Max in 2026.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore,
Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and
Paapa Essiedu as Snape.
Nick Frost joins as Hagrid, alongside
Luke Thallon as Quirrell and
Paul Whitehouse as Filch. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said they’re excited for fans to “witness [the trio’s] magic together onscreen.” Rowling will serve as an executive producer.
