Emma Mackey takes the lead in Ella McCay, a new film from 
James L. Brooks, whose writing and directing credits include Broadcast News and Terms of Endearment. 20th Century Studios released the trailer on August 5, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on December 12, 2025.
The story follows a young woman navigating work and family pressures — a grounded setup that fits Brooks’ track record of writing about everyday dynamics with humor and detail. Mackey is joined by a large ensemble cast, including
