Dominic McLaughlin Talks First Time About Being Harry Potter

11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin calls playing Harry Potter “a dream” as he speaks for the first time about HBO’s 2027 reboot.
Dominic McLaughlin, an 11-year-old Scottish actor, has officially been named the new Harry Potter in HBO’s upcoming reboot. Announced in May 2025, his casting ends months of speculation about who would take over from
Daniel Radcliffe. Speaking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival—where his film Grow premiered—McLaughlin admitted, “It was a bit surreal to be honest… It’s a dream role, and I’m thrilled to be able to be doing it.”
The reboot will adapt one book per season, promising a more faithful version of the Wizarding World. McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione and
Alastair Stout as Ron. The adult cast includes
Nick Frost as Hagrid,
John Lithgow as Dumbledore,
Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and
Janet McTeer as McGonagall.
Filming began in London this summer, with set photos showing McLaughlin and Frost en route to the Leaky Cauldron. The series will premiere on HBO in 2027.
