Brandon Flynn Cast as James Dean in LGBTQ-Focused Biopic ‘Willie and Jimmy Dean’

Brandon Flynn, best known for his roles in Netflix hits like 13 Reasons Why and Ratched, is set to portray Hollywood legend James Dean in an upcoming biopic titled Willie and Jimmy Dean, THR reports.

The film, directed by Guy Guido and adapted from William Bast’s memoir Surviving James Dean, explores Dean’s private relationship with Bast, his roommate and secret romantic partner during the conservative 1950s.

Flynn described Dean as a “known unknown,” emphasizing how the film will humanize the iconic star, moving beyond the glamorous photos and classic films to focus on the real-life complexities of hiding one’s sexuality in Hollywood.

Guido praised Flynn’s ability to capture both the vulnerability and intensity needed for this sensitive role. Currently in development, the movie challenges traditional biopic norms, highlighting LGBTQ struggles still relevant today.
