BigXthaPlug Releases Rap-Country Crossover Album ‘I Hope You’re Happy’

The Texan rap heavyweight released one of his most influential bodies of work to date, blending two seemingly unfitting genres.
I Hope You’re Happy marks a bold shift for BigXthaPlug, who’s trading trap beats for country melodies while keeping his hip-hop core.
“I’m from Texas, man. Country ain’t new to me—it’s in the culture,” he explains.
The album features twangy guitars and storytelling lyrics inspired by artists like Willie Nelson and Post Malone, who’s also dabbled in country. Lead single I Hope You’re Happy dropped on January 17, giving fans a taste of the fusion.
The project, produced by Tony “TM88” McPherson, includes collaborations with country-rap crossover acts like Jelly Roll and up-and-coming Nashville artists.
“TM88 pushed me to go deeper with the storytelling,” BigXthaPlug notes. Tracks like Ranch Road and Lone Star reflect his upbringing, touching on themes of redemption, hustle, and Southern pride.
Not all fans are happy about the album, though. A lot of Redditors flocked to criticize the fact that BigX is leaning too much toward country, making Texan rap feel inauthentic.
Some also voiced concerns that the rapper is an industry plant and is supporting the MAGA movement (which, of course, is diabolical).
BigX is definitely bringing something new to the table—something a lot of rap fans just aren’t ready for.
The crossover between two seemingly opposing genres sparks a stark debate over whether this new style is a political force and whether the artists representing it are industry plants.
Regardless, the album features some seriously talented musicians: Jelly Roll,
Bailey Zimmerman,
Shaboozey,
Luke Combs,
Ella Langley,
Darius Rucker,
Tucker Wetmore, and
Thomas Rhett.
All of them joined forces with one of the most interesting rap voices of the past two years, and we couldn’t be happier that this huge collab album turned out so perfectly.
