Benito Skinner Teams Up With 'Overcompensating' Cast for New Film Project

Benito Skinner is developing a new film with his Overcompensating co-stars while awaiting Season 2 renewal from Prime Video.
Benito Skinner has confirmed he’s working on a new movie with his Overcompensating co-stars
Owen Thiele and
Mary Beth Barone. In a recent SiriusXM interview with Julia Cunningham, Skinner explained the film explores a fictional version of his childhood—specifically, what it might have been like to grow up alongside someone like Owen.
The story looks at early queer friendship and shared experiences, imagining how that could have shaped identity from a young age. Skinner described the project as “joy” and said writing it has been a fun and personal process.
He emphasized he’s still focused on Overcompensating and isn’t “cheating” on the show, though he’s branching into new work. Skinner confirmed that all outlines for Season 2 are ready, and he’s waiting on Prime Video for an official renewal.
He said he remains inspired by his peers, especially Thiele and Barone, for whom he wrote roles specifically. According to Skinner, their performances exceeded expectations, and he plans to keep writing for them.
