Bella Ramsey Lands Lead Role in Daisy Haggard’s New Series 'Maya'

Bella Ramsey has landed the lead role in Maya, a new six-part thriller for Channel 4 created by Daisy Haggard. The series follows Maya and her mother Anna (played by Haggard), who are forced into witness protection after fleeing their lives in London. Settling in a quiet Scottish town with new identities, they struggle to outrun their past as two hitmen close in.

Ramsey, known for The Last of Us and Game of Thrones, said the script was “alive, nuanced, wickedly funny and scarily dark,” and praised the sharp, witty dialogue. Haggard, who previously worked with Ramsey on Netflix’s Hilda, will also make her directorial debut, co-directing with Doctor Who’s Jamie Donoughue.

Maya is produced by Two Brothers Pictures (Fleabag, The Tourist) and is set to film in Scotland later this year.
