Austin Butler Explains the Tom Hardy Trick That Helps Him Sleep

Austin Butler shares how Tom Hardy’s unusual workout tip helped him unwind after night shoots and finally get real sleep.
Austin Butler has built a reputation for total immersion in his roles, from struggling to drop
Elvis Presley’s accent after Elvis to navigating demanding night shoots for his latest film Enemies, opposite
Jeremy Allen White. In a new Men’s Health cover story, Butler admitted that switching off can be tough: “And then it’s like, Wait, what do I focus on now? What do I read about? What do I watch? What do I like?”
To cope, Butler borrowed a routine from his The Bikeriders co-star Tom Hardy, who reportedly ended late shoots by strapping on a weighted vest and knocking out 1,000 box jumps. Butler went for a gentler version—walking 30 minutes on a steep treadmill, followed by the sauna and a cold shower—which helped him finally get deep sleep.
He credits these “mundane little things,” along with catching afternoon sunlight, for keeping him grounded while balancing intense projects.
