Alyson Stoner is opening up about their complicated history with former co-star
Demi Lovato. In their new memoir Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything, the 32-year-old recalls feeling “suffocated” by Lovato’s influence during their time on Disney Channel’s Camp Rock films. Stoner, who uses they/them pronouns, said they faced online harassment from Lovato’s fanbase and felt intimidated by her PR team.¨
They described witnessing Lovato’s unpredictable moods, which they linked to her struggles with substance abuse, and remembered a tense dynamic on the 2010 Jonas Brothers tour. According to Stoner, the cast often adjusted their behavior to avoid conflict, even enduring verbal outbursts backstage before smiling together in public.
After 14 years without contact, the two reunited in Lovato’s 2024 documentary Child Star. Lovato apologized, acknowledging her past behavior. Stoner said the conversation helped them finally process the pain from that time and better understand what their former castmate was going through.
