Lanterns follows a murder investigation in Nebraska that draws in veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his new partner, John Stewart. The investigation leads to larger revelations tied to the DC Universe’s first chapter, titled Gods and Monsters. Despite being described as “grounded,” DC Studios’ co-chair James Gunn clarified that this refers to character development, not limited settings—off-world elements will still be included.

The eight-episode series is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with James Hawes directing the first two episodes. Filming began in Los Angeles in February 2025, with a release planned for early 2026 on HBO and Max.
