The shirt in which Colin Firth swam as Mr. Darcy in the 1995 adaptation of the novel “Pride and Prejudice” has now been auctioned in London for £25,000, with the proceeds going to charity. Before the auction, it was estimated to sell for £7,000 to £10,000. The shirt, worn by Firth as Darcy when he encounters Elizabeth Bennet (played by Jennifer Ehle), is one of three used in the film. One has already been auctioned for charitable purposes, and another is in the archive.
The scene with Darcy’s swim, , however, is not from Jane Austen’s original book. Over 60 clothing items used in various productions were sold at the Tuesday auction, including outfits worn by Madonna, Johnny Depp, and Margot Robbie. The funds from their sale will also be donated to charity.
