Contrary to the widely assumed belief that the line “I said something wrong” in the song “Yesterday” (1965) by The Beatles was inspired by a breakup with a girl, the reality is different. Paul McCartney has now disclosed in his podcast “A Life in Lyrics” that in the famous song, he expressed regret for embarrassing his mother one day and then regretting it.
Paul McCartney wrote “Yesterday,” which has 2,200 cover versions and was voted the best pop song of all time in 2000, at the age of 24. This was ten years after the death of his mother, Mary.
