March 8 is celebrated as a significant holiday, with its history dating back to 1909.

March 8 is annually celebrated as International Women’s Day (IWD). Its history dates back to 1909 when it was declared as “Women’s Day” on February 28 in New York. However, the date of March 8 became established after the Russian Revolution in 1917 when IWD was celebrated as a national holiday. It became a global observance after being endorsed by the United Nations in 1977.

To celebrate International Women’s Day and Barbie’s 65th birthday (on March 9), Mattel announced the addition of new dolls inspired by real actresses and singers to the “Role Models” collection. This collection aims to inspire girls that they can become anything. Actresses Viola Davis and Helen Mirren, as well as singers Shania Twain and Kylie Minogue, lent their faces to these dolls.

Other honored women include Lila Avilés (director, producer, and screenwriter), Maira Gomez (content creator), Nicole Fujita (model), and Enissa Amani (comedian).
