The following article will showcase five movies where a McDonald’s branch or a restaurant strongly reminiscent of it played a significant role.

“Coming to America” (1988)

In the comedy “Coming to America”, Eddie Murphy (1961) and Arsenio Hall play an African prince and his friend who secretly travel to America. The duo gets employed at McDowell’s, a restaurant that closely resembles McDonald’s, which it competes with.

“Falling Down” (1993)

Michael Douglas played William Foster in the thriller “Falling Down” . While waiting in traffic, he loses his patience, gets out of his car, and decides to walk home. During his journey, he encounters an arrogant store clerk and gang members who harass him, but this time he doesn’t let it slide. He also stops at a restaurant strongly resembling McDonald’s, where they refuse to serve him breakfast, to which he reacts by pulling out a gun.

“The Fifth Element” (1997)

In the movie “The Fifth Element,” Bruce Willis (1955) plays a taxi driver and former agent Korben Dallas, who, along with the alien Leeloo (Milla Jovovich, 1975), tries to save Earth. The story takes place in the 23rd century, where people can still grab a bite at McDonald’s.

“Richie Rich” (1994)

Macaulay Culkin (1980) plays the character Richie Rich in this film. After an accident involving his wealthy parents, he is left alone with the family staff in their enormous mansion. The mansion is so grand that, among many other things, it even has a private McDonald’s restaurant.

“The Founder” (2016)

The film “The Founder” is based on the true story of Ray Kroc (1902 - 1984) (Michael Keaton 1951), who in 1954 discovered a small restaurant run by the McDonald brothers. Over the years, he transformed it into the world’s most famous fast food chain.

Big Mac is great, but having a Big Mick hamburger at McDowell’s would surely be excellent as well. McDonald’s started as a small restaurant but became so famous that it penetrated not only these five featured films."
