Combster's PFW Designer Spotlight: Kartik Research
The emerging fashion label Kartik Research was founded by Delhi-native Kartik Kumra during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Now, he is presenting at the Paris Fashion Week.
While studying economics at the University of Pennsylvania, the designer returned home and seized the opportunity to launch his own clothing brand. That specializes in bohemian-inspired designs featuring Indian craftsmanship.
Kumra’s collections include embroidered camp-collar shirts, embellished double knee trousers, and other pieces showcasing handmade elements like hand-dyed cotton and mother-of-pearl buttons.
Through intimate collaborations with master artisans, Kartik Research aims to recontextualize traditional Indian techniques for a global audience while maintaining authenticity and responsibility in its references.
His designs have been worn by celebrities such as Kendrick Lamar, Lewis Hamilton or Joe Jonas and stocked in prestigious international retailers. The brand was even recognized as a semi-finalist in the prestigious 2023 LVMH for Young Fashion Designers.
