On Sunday, May 19, 2024, Abi Carter (2002) from Indio, California, became the winner of the 22nd season of “American Idol.” Will Moseley (2000), a 23-year-old musician from Hazelhurst, Georgia, finished as the runner-up, while Jack Blocker (1998), a 25-year-old graphic designer from Dallas, Texas, secured third place.
The finale featured three final performances of Bon Jovi classics, including a group rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi (born 1962) himself. Carter performed “Bed of Roses” and a stunning rendition of “Somewhere” in her final appearances, ultimately leading to her victory.
This season also marked the departure of long-time judge Katy Perry (1984), who became emotional during the finale. Perry, along with Luke Bryan (1976) and Lionel Richie (1949), has been a key part of the show’s revival since 2018. A notable contestant throughout this season was Loretta Lynn’s (1932) granddaughter, Emmy Russell (1999), who, however, did not advance to the finale.
