Two members of the Riposte Alimentaire (Food Response) group attacked the Mona Lisa. Sasha (24) and Marie-Juliette (63) splashed the painting by Leonardo da Vinci with soup that they brought in thermoses.
Fortunately, the famous artwork remained unharmed, securely concealed behind bulletproof glass. As later explained in their online video, the group carried out this act as a protest against food prices and waste in France. This isn’t the first time Mona Lisa has been targeted; in the past, it has been hit with a pie, splashed with acid, and even stolen in 1911.
Similar attacks have been experienced by other famous works, such as Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. That painting also faced a soup assault.
